Below is a list of equipment that the Mostly Haunted team take on an investigation. If you are planning your own investigation, we suggest you try and purchase the following:
Notepad, pens and pencils Used to make notes, sketches, etc during the investigation.
Torches Spare batteries and bulbs for torches You don’t want to be left in the dark, for safety’s sake!
Cameras The Mostly Haunted team take a combination of digital and 35mm cameras on investigation. 35mm pictures cannot be electronically manipulated and provide negatives for further analysis.
Tripod Ideal for steadying cameras when taking photographs or filming.
Video camera We use a standard handheld camcorder with a NightScope.
Spare video tapes As the entire investigation should be filmed, you don’t want to miss out on that once in a lifetime shot.
Digital thermometer When a manifestation is about to occur it is often reported that the temperature drops. A thermometer can act as an early warning device.
Audio tape recorder with an external microphone This not only allows you to record sound for the investigation but can be used to gather EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) on some investigations.
Audio cassettes
Motion sensor These are used to cover “trigger” or “control” objects, and to isolate areas under investigation.
Talcum powder A thin layer of talcum powder sprinkled around a “trigger” object can indicate whether anyone physical has been near it.
Walkie talkies If you are split into different teams on your investigation then Walkie Talkies allow you to keep in contact.
Mobile phone For emergencies only. Switch off during investigations.
Watch Digital with an illuminated screen is best.
Food and drink If the investigation is to last a long time.
